Prof. Amrita is a renowned scholar whose interdisciplinary work intersects sociology, activism, and performance. With a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, she currently teaches at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Her research delves into globalisation, intimate relationships, and reproductive justice. Notable publications include "Wombs in Labor" (2014) and "Birth Controlled" (2022), addressing issues of surrogacy and reproductive violence. Collaborative endeavors include co-authoring "Scripting Defiance" (2022) and "Epistemic Justice and the Postcolonial University" (2023), advocating for social change and decolonisation in academia. Driven by activism, she initiated the Women Walk at Midnight movement in South Africa and tours internationally with her performance lecture Made in India (Produced by Global Stories, Denmark). Prof. Pande’s global engagements encompass research, public lectures, and media appearances, making her a leading voice in addressing social inequalities.
