Bastiaan Wallage, from the Law Centre for Health and LIfe, delivered a thought-provoking keynote speech at the Healthy Future seminar focused on (Online) Food environments, health law and policy on Friday, 17 November 2023. His keynote explored the legal paths to restrict marketing of unhealthy foods targeting children.

Wallage delved into the moral and legal obligations placed upon governments and societies, emphasizing the imperative to safeguard children’s. Wallage concluded by outlining two potential legal avenues for legislation in children's food environments by banning unhealtht food marketing for children: a right-based approach centered on human rights principles, ensuring adequate access to nutritious food environments for children, and a risk-based approach, which evaluates potential harm against economic considerations to minimize risks and maximize benefits.
