What can we learn from EU developments in pharmaceutical law for affordable access to novel medicines in Moldova, Georgia and Armenia? LCHL’s Katrina Perehudoff was an expert invited to speak to this question at the first-ever Policy Dialogue with these three countries, organised by the WHO European Regional Office and European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies.

The Policy Dialogue was hosted in Chisinau on January 25-26, 2023 by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Moldova, the WHO European Regional Office and European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies. It sought to identify options for managing the challenges of sustainable and affordable access to novel medicines in Moldova, Georgia and Armenia.

Katrina’s contribution, based on her ongoing research exploring the EU’s role in global access to medicine, discussed issues around regulatory reliance on the EMA and the access implications of the EU’s data exclusivity rules for pharmaceuticals. Katrina’s participation was supported in part by a Veni talent grant from the Netherlands Organisation of Scientific Research and the Amsterdam University Funds.
