Mahsa Shabani from Law for Health and Life has co-edited The European Health Data Space: Examining A New Era in Data Protection together with Santa Slokenberga and Katharina Ó Cathaoir, a newly published volume by Taylor and Francis Group. In addition to her role as editor, Shabani has co-authored two chapters in the book, together with Patricia Cervera De La Cruz and Magdalena Kogut, contributing her expertise on health data governance and privacy law.

This publication offers a comprehensive analysis of the European Health Data Space (EHDS) and its implications for health and genetic data, individual privacy, and healthcare providers. With the existing legal framework struggling to adequately protect data-related rights, the book explores the challenges and opportunities presented by the EHDS, particularly in balancing the interests of individuals, policymakers, and researchers.

Key themes include the transformation of patients’ rights, the role of wearable technology, advancements in e-health, and the secondary use of medical data. The book also critically examines the EHDS in relation to existing legal frameworks such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Data Governance Act, and the Data Act.
