The aim of this article is to address the challenges and implications of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on the sharing and use of biomedical data, particularly in the context of transnational clinical and research networks. The paper identifies several issues arising from the GDPR's strict data protection provisions and suggests three specific legal changes that should be implemented to facilitate the exchange of biomedical data among clinicians and researchers.
