On 13 December 2021, Dr. Katrina Perehudoff commented on the inequal global distribution of vaccines.

“The current vaccine distribution exposes an unequal balance,” says Perehudoff. If more pharmaceutical companies had been given the chance to produce vaccines at the beginning of this year, we would have had more doses for countries that are in great need of vaccines. However, most companies are still not willing to share their knowledge.”

It is not the first time that Perehudoff expresses her concerns about the unbalanced vaccine distribution. She co-authored a report for the WHO, in which she and her co-authors pleaded for more transparency regarding the costs and selling prices of vaccines.

Nevertheless, Perehudoff is optimistic about the future: “194 countries have expressed their willingness to reach a ‘pandemic agreement’. With the help of such an agreement, states can set rules to warrant everyone’s right to health and equality."
