On the 29th of October, Hannah van Kolfschooten, PhD candidate at the Law Centre for Health & Life, was a guest speaker at the webinar ‘Developing AI for Healthcare’, organized by UvA-based Research Priority Area Human(e) AI.

AI holds a promise to revolutionize healthcare, by improving diagnosis and prognosis, reducing increasing healthcare costs through automation, and making healthcare widely available. However, contrary to the general impression that AI is widely utilized in hospitals, the reality is a bit more nuanced.

There are still questions to be addressed regarding the ability of the methods to generalize and adapt to new data, interpretability of the automatic decisions and the ability of the methods to automatically control the quality of their performance.

During the webinar, Hannah van Kolfschooten discussed possible answers to there questions together with Ivana Išgum, Professor of AI and Medical Imaging of the Amsterdam Medical Centre (AMC). Their discussion was moderated by Tobias Blanke, Professor of Humanities and AI .
